Darnell Shaffer

Founding Principal | CEO

Darnell Shaffer is an emerging leader within the renewable energy industry with a specialized focus in project finance. He currently serves as the CEO of Melastone Energy Partners. In his position, Darnell leads all aspects of the company with a core focus on business development, channel partnerships, financing, and community engagement.

Prior to founding Melastone, Darnell supported the U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office providing credit risk assessment and financial analysis for a loan portfolio valued over $25 billion representing some of the largest utility-scale renewable power generation assets in the country. Additionally, Darnell has spearheaded the execution of over $250 million in tax equity financing for community solar assets.

Darnell holds a Master of Arts in International Relations and International Economics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), with a program focus on Energy, Resources, and Environment and Infrastructure Finance. He also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics from Baruch College, City University of New York.
